Children applying to join KA in P1 are invited to attend informal assessments in February of the year they are starting school. Small groups of children meet Linda MacBeath, Head of Junior School and our Head of Infants. Whilst having fun with games and various interactive tasks, children are observed for their communication, language development, ability to listen and concentration.
Applications for entry to Junior School are accepted all year round.
If applying to join the school after the start of the school year in August, children are invited to spend a short time at school which will include an informal language and development assessment.
P2 - P6
All children applying for P2-P6 are invited to attend a Taster Day where they join a class for the day and meet some of their prospective classmates. During their visit they will complete language and maths assessments. Having the opportunity to meet future classmates and get to know the staff and facilities can be a real benefit to prospective pupils, as well as enabling us to get to know your children.
Children are assessed on the basis of their performance in our assessments, our observations during their Taster Day and a satisfactory report from their current school.
For P2 and P3, information will be sought on academic progress and attitude.
For P4 – P6, information will be sought on academic progress, attitude and aptitude in extra-curricular activities.
Where applicants are unable to travel to the school for a Taster Day, alternative assessment arrangements can be made with your child’s current school.
No Taster Day or entrance assessment may be undertaken before a completed application form has been received, together with the application fee of £30.
