KA 1878 Club
The KA 1878 Club was launched to recognise academicals and friends of KA who wish to support the School by leaving a gift in their will. Gifts in wills have always been extremely important to the School, and we are grateful to those who choose to support the School in this tax-efficient way. The 1878 Club primarily supports the long-term financial security and development of Kelvinside Academy and will be influential in short-term and medium-term projects.
Provision for family and friends is naturally a priority in financial planning. It may be possible to make a provision for those closest to you and also leave a gift to the School. Since the Minerva Educational Trust is a registered charity, all legacy donations made to the School are exempt from UK Inheritance and Capital Gains Taxes. Under current rules, leaving 10% or more of your taxable net estate to charity reduces the Inheritance Tax rate on your entire taxable estate from 40% to 36%.
Ways You Can Leave a Legacy
Residuary Legacy
A gift of all, a percentage of, or a share of your estate after expenses, pecuniary, and specific bequests. The benefit of residuary legacies is that the value is not affected by inflation, as there is no fixed sum. As the value of your estate increases, so does the value of your legacy.
Pecuniary Legacy
This allows you to gift a fixed sum of money, which can be index-linked to safeguard its future value.
Reversionary Legacy
This legacy allows you to leave a gift to family and friends during their lifetime. Upon their death, the legacy reverts to Kelvinside Academy.
Specific
You can gift property, antiques, or stocks and shares to the School as a gift in kind.
Charity Details
The Kelvinside Academy Minerva Educational Trust (SCO 37138) is a registered Scottish Charity. By giving a gift to us, you can help to reduce your inheritance tax liability, as any bequest to a charity is deducted from the value of the estate before inheritance tax liability is calculated.
If you would like to give something back through a legacy, however big or small, please speak to your solicitor who will be able to guide you on how to leave a gift to the Minerva Educational Trust.
KA 1878 Club Membership
Academicals, friends and parents indicating that they also intend to leave a gift to the School in their will will be offered membership to the KA 1878 Club. Every member is invited to attend a lunch with the Rector, who will update members on the latest developments in the School. This allows attendees to see the changes that have taken place and to meet some of our senior pupils.
To let us know of your intentions to support future generations of academicals through a legacy gift, please complete the legacy form and return it to the Development Office. If you require any additional information or would like to find out more, please contact the Development Manager, Elaine Solman, on 0141 357 3376 or email elaine.solman@kelvinside.org.
