Bursaries, Scholarships & fees

We recognise the significant financial commitment parents make for independent education, and we strive to offer exceptional value through small class sizes and highly skilled teaching staff. We make every effort to minimise fee increases, ensuring that the high quality of education we provide remains accessible.

Understanding the fees

  • What’s included

    – Text Books for all subjects
    – Art and IT consumables
    – Entrance fees and subscriptions
    – Personal accident and travel insurance
    – School curriculum outings
    – Examination fees

  • Family Discount

Parents who have more than two children attending school at the same time will receive a reduction (against tuition fees) of 25% for the third child and a 50% reduction for any subsequent children.

  • Lunch charges

It is compulsory for all Junior School and Senior Prep to take lunch in the dining hall. Senior pupils are encouraged to take advantage of Kelvinside’s award winning food offering which provides halal and vegetarian options. A term’s notice must be given in respect of withdrawal from school lunch.

  • Activities Week

Charged by direct debit over the 10 payments collected for school fees and if paying termly, the cost will be charged in the term it occurs. Charges for Activities Week, which is compulsory for all pupils in the relevant year groups, are dependent on the programme of activities and transport costs. For the 2024/25 Session these charges are:
    – J5-£380
    – J6-£510
    – SP-£510
    – S1-£510
    – S2-£510

  • Careers Guidance

A compulsory one-off enrolment fee of £140 is charged for pupils’ participation in the Morrisby Careers Guidance Scheme in S2 and for new pupils staring in S3 or S4. This is recovered over the Autumn term for those paying by direct debit or as an extra for those paying termly.

  • Senior Book Deposits

A levy of £50 is charged for each pupil entering S1 to cover the cost of lost or damaged textbooks. This sum is credited to parents when pupils leave the school provided that all books are returned in a satisfactory condition.

  • Transport Platform

For families using our bus routes there will be an annual registration fee of £100 per child billed in Autumn term or in the term your child starts using the service. This will be charged to parents paying by direct debit over 10 monthly payments along with fees. In addition, there are separate daily charges for bus usage.

  • Bus Usage Charges

Bus usage charges are incurred at £3 per day per child and these charges will be billed termly in arrears. If paying by direct debit these charges will be collected along with the other extras over the term’s direct debits (i.e. charges incurred for Autumn term will be billed in Spring term and collected by direct debit over Spring term direct debit collections).

  • Direct Debit Payment

When paying by direct debit each term’s fee account will be sent to you for information only. Under the direct debit system one tenth of the session’s tuition fees are deducted on the first day of each month September to June. Extras are collected over the months that relate to that term i.e. Autumn (Sept-Dec), Spring (Jan-Mar) and Summer (Apr-June). By agreement with the Bursar, the full termly fee can be paid on the first day of each term by direct debit, cheque, debit or credit card.

  • Annual Payment

Fees can be paid by one annual payment in advance and are subject to a discount of 2%. Please send your request to sharon.moffat@kelvinside.org by 30 June 2024. The annual fees will be due for payment no later than 1 August 2024.

  • Arrears

Failure to pay by the due date will result in interest being charged at 3% per month and added to the fee. If fees remain outstanding legal action may be taken, and the Board of Governors reserve the right to request parents to withdraw their children from the school until such time as all fees are paid.

  • Withdrawal Notice

A full term’s notice of withdrawal from the School must be given in writing to the Rector otherwise a full term’s fee will be charged in lieu of notice. Where a final decision may depend upon the results of external examinations, a provisional full term’s notice must also be given. A term’s notice must be given in respect of withdrawal from music or any extra tuition class.

Bursaries

We firmly believe that a talented child should have the opportunity to receive a KA education and all the benefits and opportunities it presents. We are proud to be able to offer bursary funded places through the generosity of our former pupils, parents and friends. Bursaries are means tested taking account of family income and financial position of each applicant.

Closing date for bursary applications – Friday 3 January 2025.

Sports scholarships

We offer sports scholarships for talented hockey and rugby players joining in S1, S2, or S5. These scholarships cover 20-50% of school fees and can include additional means-tested assistance. Scholars will join a dedicated sports programme, receive professional coaching, and are expected to contribute significantly to the school’s sports teams. Applicants are assessed through Talent ID sessions, which include interviews, fitness evaluations, and skills assessments.
