Outdoor Learning Nursery

If you go down to the woods today you’re in for a big surprise as Kelvinside Academy Nursery launches its Forest Kindergarten.

One morning a week, children are set to pull on their wellies and explore nearby woods.

A concept originating in Scandinavia, the Forest Kindergarten has been championed by Forest Commission Scotland since 2009 with Glasgow City Council keen to see it rolled  out by as many nurseries as possible.

Speaking about the launch of Kelvinside Academy Nursery’s Forest Kindergarten Tracy Nugent, Head of Nursery said: “There are so many benefits to allowing children to play freely in woodland. As well as increased physical activity, the outdoors is a great place to learn as the children witness nature first-hand and discover more independence through real-life experiences.
