The Glasgow Academy Henderson Challenge – 20 May

Following on from the previous week KA pupils were involved in the annual Henderson Challenge organised by Glasgow Academy.  The schools involved were Glasgow Academy, High School of Glasgow, Jordanhill and St Aloysius College.

There were many outstanding individual and team performances that day. Erin Church won the J5 girls 200m A race with a very gutsy run. Louise Kemp (J5) won the 60m sprint in impressive style.

Gilli Jones (J6) won the 80m and the Long Jump.

Ella Ritchie and Zara Goziem-Ibonye won the SP A&B 200m.  Ella’s race was a real nail biter with 3 girls neck and neck the whole was up the home straight but Ella showed a steely nerve to dip at the line in first place.

Emma Williams (SP) and Molly McKenzie (SP) both won their respective 80m A&B races.  This was a great comeback for Emma having not run for 6 weeks due to a broken arm!

Evie Smith (SP) once again demonstrated that she has a very powerful arm in the cricket ball throw where she launched it 37.40m. Isla Bottomley (SP) was very impressive in the Shot Putt throwing 6.47m to win.

The relays were very successful for the KA teams.  The J5 girls A team won in fine style, the J5 boys A&B teams won by a canter.  The SP girls A&B teams also came home victorious although they had to fight all the way to the finish line.
