Congratulations to the KA Hurricanes who blew the opposition away yesterday at the annual St. Columba's P7 tournament.

The boys were in Pool 1 against;

High School of Glasgow (Win 3-0)

St Columba's                   (Win 8-0)

Queen Victoria School   (Win 6-0)

KA topped their group and progressed to the final where they met St. Aloysius College.   This was a very tough match and the boys had to dig deep against a big physical side. After having to defend hard for most of the opening 5 minutes of the first half the boys tried to strike wide and find gaps in the St Aloysius defence but they held firm and the first half finished 0-0.

It was clear that both teams were evenly matched and it was going to be down to who wanted it the most. It was nip and tuck at the start of the second half with both team tackling hard to keep the other at bay.

Then with 4 minutes to go,  with KA having had a sustained period of pressure in the St Aloysius half, Gilli Jones (SP) out paced the St Aloysius back line to score the decisive try. (Final Score 1-0) There was a nervous final period where the St Aloysius boys search for an equaliser but the KA defence held firm.

This was the first time Kelvinside Academy have won this tournament. The boys showed a huge amount of character to win the final and should be very proud of the efforts.

This was a team effort from the boys but also the coaching staff of Gary Mercer, Mr Reid and Mr Lawson.   Many thanks also go to St. Columba's for hosting the tournament and the St. Aloysius boys for making the final a great game.

Mr C Lawson
